Own workers

BEWI is expected to ensure ethical treatment, respect for human rights, and positive working environments for their workforce. The company works actively to ensure safe working conditions are maintained in accordance with internal policies, local laws, and regulations, and preventive measures are implemented. Employees and workers at the facilities are exposed to physical work-related risks of injuries and accidents. BEWI has a target of zero accidents when it comes to health and safety.

Relevant projects

Safety observations and reporting

BEWI seeks a working environment where health and safety is integrated in the business. A Health and Safety group has been established, represented by management from all divisions, to plan and follow up on activities. By increasing awareness on safety observations and establishing routines for reporting, several business units are continuously improving their safety working environment.

Specialised training and qualifications

In highly regulated work places, such as the chemical production facilities workers are offered specialised training programmes and processes for training certification. At regular production facilities, introduction training programs are conducted on a regular basis in line with local legislations or site-specific standards.

Strengthening the safety culture

Communication and awareness campaigns on health and safety is running across all business units, increasing focus on specific topics and key risks, strengthening the culture of safety. Videos, posters and news articles are broadcasted through a variety of internal digital and on-site communication channels, while fire evacuation drills, first aid courses and testing of internal procedures in local sites are an ongoing process.

Employee engagement and development

BEWI’s employee engagement survey, BE heard, is an annual process and an important follow-up mechanism to improve engagement, company culture, while creating opportunities for employees and managers. Since the pilot in 2021 the targeting dimensions developed positively together with an increasing BE-heard index and participation rate, followed by numerous improvement activities across the company, from well-being programs in Finland to sustainability workshops in Denmark.
