Ideal for insulation

Extruded polystyrene, XPS, is molten polystyrene that is extruded (pressed) into boards. XPS has a closed-cell structure without any voids, which locks air inside the sealed polystyrene pores. This gives XPS high compressive strength and provides more resistance to heat transfer than other insulating materials of the same thickness.

This makes XPS ideal for insulation and it’s often used in foundations, reversed roofs and other projects with high strength requirements.

Water resistance

XPS is also used for projects that require higher water vapour diffusion, since the closed cell structure means that water can’t get into it. A XPS board has enough water resistance to deal with normal basement and foundation moisture levels. Its water resistance also inhibits the growth of mold and mildew.

Sustainability

A sustainable choice

The first rate thermal properties of XPS can help reduce the amount of energy needed to heat and cool a building. In fact, XPS saves more energy than is used to manufacture it.

XPS is also recyclable and can be melted and reused as raw material used to produce new products. It helps make construction projects more sustainable.

Manufacturing

XPS is manufactured by feeding polystyrene beads into an extruder, where they are heated until they melt and are mixed with foaming agents. The mixture is extruded through a die, expanded in a cooling process and formed into foam boards that we cut into various product dimensions.

Quality control

BEWI’s stringent quality control system verifies that the polystyrene beads, foaming agents and other material we use to produce our XPS are first rate. We track and document every step of the production process and have rigorous procedures in place to ensure that our products meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.
