BEWI RAW Cycling Day

The BEWI RAW Cycling Day featured a 100km trip and four cyclists joined together to ride from the RAW site in Etten-Leur in the Netherlands.

At BEWI, we like cycling because it combines competitiveness with exercise, and sustainable travel and we get to accomplish great things together. On top of that, it’s a great way to spend time together outside of the office. We ride for charity, sponsor athletes and encourage everyone at BEWI to hit the road for a workout, spend time together and clear their minds.

On May 14th, the BEWI RAW Cycling Day was planned. It was the first time we took the bikes out together in two years due to Covid measures. Just before the pandemic struck, Team BEWI was about to travel to Norway to participate in the Tour de Frøya. Due to cancelled events and lockdowns, we’ve had to pause our activities. Until now.

The BEWI RAW Cycling Day featured a 100km trip and four cyclists joined together to ride from the RAW site in Etten-Leur in the Netherlands. After riding along beautiful road by the Dutch coast, we finished the day back where we started.

Summer had arrived in the Netherlands so the new TEAM BEWI cycling outfits could be tested for the first time. No jackets were required, but beware of the Dutch mountains! This does not mean riding uphill however, but facing the omnipresent wind on the flat tracks!

A stop was planned at half the distance, at the “Philipsdam”. This dam is part of the famous Delta Works, which protects the Netherlands from flooding. Before conquering the steepest part of the trip, some refreshment was needed.

After the coffee and pie, the wind was no longer an enemy and the team pushed on in the direction of Etten-Leur. This is the way cycling has always been meant to be!

A few miles before the finish, it was time to celebrate a successful day and some nice cold beers awaited the participants. To make it even better, the beer was accompanied by some “bitterballen” which is a typical Dutch snack whenever there is a party.

TEAM BEWI wishes to thank Richard Haarlem, Roel van der Rijst (both operators in the Suspension Polymerization Department), Peter Meesters (Process Engineer) and Jürgen de Jong (R&D Manager) for the great team spirit during the day and the team looks forward to the next event.
