Energy-efficient insulation from BEWI shapes the growing community in Fredrikstad

Just a short walk from BEWI’s facility in Fredrikstad, Norway, a new district with residential and commercial buildings is emerging. Locally produced XPS (extruded polystyrene) perimeter and roof insulation from BEWI help bringing the neighborhood to life.

A vibrant district on solid ground

At Gressvik torg, 65 apartments and 5000 square meters of commercial space are currently under construction – including a grocery store, bakery, and library.

“We supply XPS insulation solutions for roofs, atriums, and ground areas”, says Frank Lønseth in BEWI.

Lønseth is standing on the roof that soon will serve as a residential garden connecting several buildings. The design features a pedestrian pathway through green areas, a playground, and social meeting spots. In addition to providing high energy-efficiency, the XPS insulation boards enable rainwater retention and drainage, ensuring a functional roof.

 

 

 

High product standards and reliable collaboration

Project engineer Sindre Melgaard from contractor Ove Skår AS describes Gressvik torg as an innovative yet challenging project. It encompasses residential housing, commercial areas, office buildings, underground parking, and an extensive outdoor roof area, all within a tight schedule. Effective planning and reliable partnerships are essential for success.
