Giving used EPS a new life

Bidfood, a leading processor of meat and seafood in Czechia, receives large volumes of fresh fish and meat delivered in EPS boxes from suppliers across Europe. The EPS packaging protects product quality during transport and helps reduce food waste. Instead of becoming waste after use, Bidfood has established a return system where empty EPS boxes are collected, compacted and sent to BEWI Circular for recycling.

“We rely on EPS packaging to transport fresh food. Just as important as how they perform during transport is what happens after use. By deliver the used EPS boxes for recycling, we make sure the material stays in the loop instead of becoming waste,” says Jiri Rudolf, Managing Director, Bidfood Kralupy

Partnership is key

At BEWI Circular’s recycling facilities, the collected EPS is processed into rGPPS (recycled general purpose polystyrene). The recycled material is then used in new products such as insulation solutions or packaging. This reduces the need for virgin raw materials, reduces emissions and helps customers reach their climate reduction targets.

By working together, companies can turn waste into valuable raw material and create solutions that benefit both industry and the environment.

“When producers, distributors and recyclers collaborate, we can keep materials in the circular value chain and turn shared responsibility into real, measurable impact,” explains Artem Ocheretin, Managing Director, BEWI Circular Czechia
