Our new standard in XPS in the Nordics

Minimum 50% recycled material
XPS extruded polystyrene

Terra XPS (extruded polystyrene), containing at least 50 per cent recycled material, becomes the standard for XPS supplied by BEWI across the Nordics. Performance and areas of use remain unchanged.

For anyone who designs, buys or installs insulation, the best kind of change is one that asks nothing of them. That is the idea behind making Terra XPS the standard for BEWI’s XPS in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

What changes, and what does not

Terra XPS contains from 50 per cent recycled material, in the form of recycled EPS and XPS. Compressive strength, moisture absorption and thermal performance are declared as before, and the boards are used in the same applications: ground and foundation insulation, roofs and other structures with high demands on load-bearing capacity and moisture resistance.

There is no separate range to specify and no special order to place. If you order XPS from BEWI, this is what you receive.

Proven in Norway

The standard is not new to the market. BEWI introduced Terra XPS in Norway in 2024 and made it the standard XPS 300 grade there on 1 April 2025. Since then it has been delivered to projects including the Innseilingen residential development and the Værste district in Fredrikstad, and a biomethane plant in Saaremaa, Estonia.

Produced close to where it is used

BEWI produces XPS in three Nordic countries: in Skövde, Sweden; Fredrikstad, Norway; and Kaavi, Finland. For customers, that means short distances between production and site, local technical support and a resilient Nordic supply network that does not depend on a single factory.

The raw material is also sourced within BEWI’s own value chain. In Norrköping, Sweden, BEWI operates its own recycling facility, processing collected EPS into recycled raw material that can be used in new insulation products. In Fredrikstad, BEWI opened a new recycling facility in February 2026, where used EPS from construction sites, demolition and industry is sorted, ground and cleaned before being returned to new products.

Together, this creates a more integrated Nordic model – from collection and recycling of material to local production and delivery close to the customer.
