BEWI establishes a new XPS facility in Finland

XPS insulation

Combining increased capacity with recycled content, supporting customer demand

BEWI is establishing a new XPS (extruded polystyrene) insulation facility in Sastamala, Finland. Construction of the plant began in early 2026, with production scheduled to the first quarter of 2027.

Strategic location in Sastamala

The initiative is a direct response to the growing demand for XPS solutions. The new facility will be located adjacent to BEWI’s existing EPS (expanded polystyrene) production site on Toravantie in Sastamala, supporting efficient logistics and contributing to strengthening BEWI’s position in the Finnish market.

“The XPS market is growing, particularly infrastructure projects. With the new plant, BEWI will operate two XPS production facilities in Finland, in Sastamala and Kaavi, ensuring reliable deliveries to customers across the country, in line with our ambitions for further growth in insulation solutions,” says Tommi Palomäki, Managing Director of BEWI Finland.

Minimum 50 per cent recycled content

The plant will manufacture GreenLine XPS insulation boards for the construction sector, produced with at least 50 per cent recycled material. The use of recycled feedstock results in up to 35 per cent lower carbon footprint, while maintaining the key performance properties of conventional XPS, such as high compressive strength, moisture resistance and thermal insulation, providing protection against both heat and frost.

“Promoting responsible construction is one of BEWI’s key objectives. We are pleased to meet the demand for products with recycled content and to support more sustainable construction,” Palomäki adds.
