Byhaven i Fredrikstad har XPS fra BEWI i sitt funksjonelle tak

Topped with energy-efficient insulation from BEWI

XPS perimeter and roof insulation

The new landmark in Fredrikstad, Norway, is topped with XPS insulation solutions from BEWI.

A new city district is emerging in the former shipyard and industrial area of Værste in Fredrikstad, Norway. The Værstetorget shopping center, spanning 30 000 square meters, now offers retail, services and dining, and is a major contribution to Fredrikstad’s city centre. Above these commercial spaces, the Byhaven apartment complex has welcomed several hundred residents to their new homes.

Warm shoes and a protective helmet

“We provide XPS perimeter insulation for the ground areas, literally laying the foundation for this new district,” says Lars Herman Evensen, Sales Manager in BEWI Insulation Norway. “And on the roofs, the buildings are topped with BEWI XPS insulation boards.”

XPS (extruded polystyrene) insulation ensures stability, long-term thermal resistance and high energy efficiency. Placed on roofs, the XPS boards also facilitate rainwater retention and drainage, a requirement in many urban areas, transforming rooftops into functional outdoor spaces for residents.

Further CO2 reductions with Terra XPS

Terra XPS, which contains 45 per cent recycled material, has also been used in the project, contributing to further reductions in CO2 emissions. The ongoing transformation of the Værste area includes various residential and commercial projects, continuing the revitalisation of Fredrikstad’s city center.
