BEWI adopts its own EPD generator, staying transparent about its products’ environmental impact

The generator provides transparent, third-party verified information on products' environmental performance

BEWI is adopting its own company specific EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) generator to monitor, publish and digitally lead the way in decarbonisation and circular economy. EPDs are internationally accepted, third-party verified documents that provide clear and transparent information about a product’s environmental impact across the value chain.

“Providing our customers with transparent and accountable information about the environmental impact of our products is important to BEWI. By using our own EPD generator, we can calculate the impact more accurately for each of our customers, making it easier for them to take well informed decisions and fulfil their commitments to CO2 reductions”, says Camilla Bjerkli, Chief Sustainability Officer of the BEWI Group.

The foundation of an EPD is an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), assessing the impacts of a product through its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction, production, transport, use phase to disposal or reuse. BEWI’s EPD generator is approved by an independent third party and developed according to international standards.

In addition to supporting customers, the EPD generator enables BEWI to systematically improve the environmental performance of its products, by providing valuable data about the impacts and opportunities of alternative methods of production, such as various grades of recycled materials and energy sources, production processes, and logistics.

“We constantly strive to enhance resource efficiency and to reuse and recycle more. By incorporating data into the EPD generator, we can immediately assess the environmental impact of our suggested initiatives. The tool helps us identify areas for improvement and transform them into concrete actions”, Bjerkli ends.
