Production

I have three positions in one: Operator, Mechanic and Machine Expert - and I like it!
I love finetuning!

The less I have to do, the better my job is. Then the machines just run at full speed and the final product is perfect.

“Specifically men’s work? Not at all” -Simone wants to know nothing about that.-“Yes, I do recognisethat story of few girls at school, but nothing about my job is better done by a man. Of course, sometimes I need extra ‘power’ and then I do ask a male colleague, but just as often I can do a job better than them because of my stature and agility. No, everything can be done perfectly by both men and women. On the shop floor at BEWI, that doesn’t play any role either.”

Three functions in one

“You really have to be a jack of all trades in this job. Yes, I stand behind a machine, but it’s really much more. Partly being a Mechanic, but mainly being an Operator, making sure everything runs as efficiently as possible. The less I have to do, the better I have done my job. That sounds strange, but then the machines just run at full speed and the end product is perfect. I like that fine-tuning. Sometimes I play with settings and the process or product has become better than when I follow the original “recipe”. I think that’s cool. Others might be more stuck in “how we’ve always done it”.

From potatoes to EPS

After studying Machine Operator Process Industry, I first worked in a potato factory. An American company where you were more of a number and people were constantly looking over your shoulder.” Sighs: “So I don’t take well to that… Here at BEWI, I was given all the space I needed to learn, develop and grow into the manager I am now being trained for. Everyone is nice and flexible. People from the Lab (R&D) who come to spar on the shop floor also wait patiently when I am in the middle of a process.” Pauses for a moment and then says: ‘When I started working here, my family literally said I blossomed.’
