Our lab analyses lead to better products
This world is SO challenging and diverse, as far as I'm concerned there will be many more young girls!

Measuring, measuring, measuring to get the quality of our products even higher

Anna Vermaas works as a Lab Technician at BEWI RAW. “And that is mainly measuring, measuring and measuring again. Everything to get the quality of our products even higher. And that sometimes means developing, testing and applying new analysis and measurement methods.”

Black and white

“I have a strong urge to find out and understand why something works in a certain way. Many women around me went into healthcare after school. And I have that side in me too, but I was particularly good at science subjects like chemistry and physics. In subjects where it’s simply right or wrong. Black and white. Here at BEWI, I can apply that very well.

Sometimes, by the way, you can also be a bit too black and white. You shouldn’t just deal with loose, cold numbers. Over time, I have become increasingly curious about the why behind those numbers and their relationship with our customers’ end products. I also visit our production lines more often and talk to the people at the machines. That helps to understand each other and deliver a better product together.”

Cleaner water

“But I am also concerned, for example, with delivering water we use in production as pure as possible. Brabant Water, which takes care of our drinking water, regularly visits us to check the quality and catch up. They are always very complimentary: “You are doing that really well,” they say. We see that differently at other companies, but you really take it seriously’.” Vermaas: “And that makes me proud then. That is also exactly how BEWI wants to work: as sustainable as possible.”

More women in engineering

She too recognises the lack of women in engineering. “Maybe some people think this is a typical man’s world, but that’s not so bad. Besides, I like the directness of men. I had to learn that myself, but at least you know where you stand quickly. And this world is SO challenging and varied, as far as I’m concerned there will be many more women in it!”
